Family Statement in Response to Rep. Adam Smith’s Letter to the White House and State Department

We appreciate Representative Adam Smith and the more than 100 Members of Congress who have come together to urge the Department of Justice, the White House, and the State Department to do their jobs and independently investigate the killing of our beloved Aysenur.

We reiterate their calls for a thorough and independent investigation, and a release of all evidence to our family. This is the bare minimum we should expect from the Biden-Harris administration.

As Aysenur’s family, we know the United States is more accustomed to providing impunity to Israeli military and officials instead of justice for the family members impacted by Israel’s criminal actions. The U.S. has never held Israeli actors accountable for its killings of American citizens, and the killings of tens of thousands of Palestinians whose lives were violently taken from them by U.S.-supplied weapons.

We call on the U.S. government to not only immediately launch a criminal investigation into the killing of Aysenur, but to fully implement all existing laws against Israel and hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable. No family should ever have to experience this kind of nightmare.
